The country's premier journalism school Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) may get Deemed University status with the Information & Broadcasting Ministry planning to move a proposal to the HRD Ministry in this regard.
"The I&B Ministry is actively considering working towards getting Deemed University status for IIMC. A proposal in this regard may soon be moved," a senior official said.
The official said the proposal will have to be submitted to the HRD Ministry for evaluation and according of Deemed University status to Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC).
The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has been planning to get 'Institute of National Importance' tag for IIMC, but it will now focus more on making it a Deemed University, the official said.

IIMC centres, at present, offer diploma courses in journalism and once it gets Deemed University status, it will be able to grant bachelor's and master's degrees.
