"I decided to participate in the full marathon only last evening. I had practiced hard for the event and decided to cover the full distance. Seriously, I wasn't expecting to finish on top and that too in three hours," said the 23-year-old Kadam, whose daily training schedule includes 25 kms of running in the morning and 12 kms in the evening.
Press Trust of IndiaIn the half-marathon for male veteran category, Jawahar Prasad clocked one hour 20 minutes and 57 seconds to take the first position while in the female veteran category, Neelu Gupta won the race in one hour 24 minutes and 37 seconds. In the half-marathon male category, Vishram Meena came first clocking one hour six minutes and 31 seconds, while Kiran Tiwari ran away with the honours in the half-marathon female category in one hour 20 minute and 36 seconds. In the male veteran category, B L I Bosco clocked three hours 11 minutes and 34 seconds to take in the first position. The race was flagged off from India Gate by Siddharth Shriram, chairman, Mawana Sugars and Krishna Shriram, executive chairman, Usha International. The marathon saw over 12500 entries from the Delhi Police, Indian Army, Air Force and Para Military Forces, corporate houses and colleges. The total prize money was Rs 15 lakhs. The Indian Open marathon is the only event to be run through some of the most scenic parts of the central capital, including the Rajpath, Parliament Street and the Raisina Road before winding up at the India Gate. The event was conducted by the officials of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) and the Delhi State Athletics Association.
