A weird reason saw the seventh edition of the I-League get off to a 22-minute delayed start at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan here.
Infamous for blackouts due to power failure, the 120,000 capacity Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan kicked off the I-League in an afternoon match, but one of the two ambulances was missing from the venue forcing a delay.
It is mandatory to have two ambulances ready but there was only one at the scheduled 3pm start as the players and officials of Mohammedan Sporting and Pune FC had to wait for the other ambulance to arrive.
"We are the hosts, but it's a joint responsibility with the IFA (state association). After knowing the delay, we had informed the IFA but unfortunately the start was not possible because of the rule," Mohammedan Sporting president Sultan Ahmed said.
The stadium had made headlines for a wrong reason when a World Cup qualifier between India and Japan had to be suspended for 25 minutes on September 8, 2004 because of power failure.
