I resigned as Belgian Hony Consul: Muthiah
Press Trust of India Chennai Noted industrialist A C Muthiah today dismissed reports that he was removed from the post of Honorary Consul of Belgium in Chennai saying he had resigned after a full-fledged Belgian Consulate was opened here.
"There have been misleading statements in the media that I have been removed from the post of Hony Consul of Belgium, Chennai. There is no basis in this statement," he said in a statement.
On the contrary, Muthiah said, the fact was that consequent to the decision of the Belgian government to open a full-fledged Belgian Consulate at Chennai, he had on his own offered to resign.
"My resignation has been accepted by the Belgian Ambassador (in New Delhi). The Ambassador in his letter while thanking me for the services I have rendered to the Kingdom of Belgium since my nomination as Hony Coonsul has acknowledged that I have been particularly instrumental in reinforcing the Belgian presence in South of India," Muthiah said in his statement.
