Sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan says he respects the decision of the people with regard to the ban on Pakistani artistes following the Uri terror attack, but believes that art transcends boundaries.
When asked if cross border talent should be encouraged or the demand for ban on Pakistani artistes is justified, Khan told PTI, "I respect the decision of people of India, the government of India and our Prime Minister Narendra Modi."
However neither the government nor the PM has said anything regarding the ban on Pakistani artistes.
"Whatever the government and our PM would decide, I would respect their views," Khan said.
But at the same time, he said, "I think artistes are not bound by any religion. Art has no religion, art is beyond boundaries."
The Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena has been protesting against the release of films featuring Pakistani actors and has intensified its efforts to stall the screening Karan Johar's upcoming film 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil' as it features Fawad Khan.
They even issued a veiled threat to vandalise multiplexes and theatres exhibiting the movie, which is slated to release on October 28.
"Ae Dil Hai Mushkil" stars Ranbir Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Anushka Sharma in lead roles while Fawad, whose casting has been at the center of the controversy, is in a cameo.
