Recalling his bitter experiences in the emergency days during the mid 1970s, DMK treasurer MK Stalin today said he was even beaten up like several other party colleagues in the Chennai Central Jail after being incarcerated.
"We were beaten up by life convicts on the diktats of the Chennai Central jail superintendent, and the scar on my hand is a marker of the torture we endured in prison," Stalin said in an interview published today in party mouthpiece "Murasoli."
Stalin, along with 125 other DMK workers including former Union Minister Murasoli Maran were lodged in Central Prison here soon after emergency was clamped in 1975, the daily said quoting the party treasurer.
"We were intimidated. We were asked to sign papers saying that we had quit the DMK, we however did not budge," he said.
Recalling that he fainted after he was attacked by life convicts, Stalin said he was saved on time by the intervention of the then DMK MP Chittibabu.
The Parliamentarian later passed away due to the injuries he allegedly sustained during his prison term, Stalin said.
"We were in prison for a year, and we had to endure such torture for three months," he said.
