Playing renowned Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan in "The Man Who Knew Infinity" was a bit of an irony for Dev Patel as the subject of mathematics was an Achilles heel of the actor in school.
Dev tackles the lead role in Matthew Brown's biopic on the the mathematics genius and he says it was embarrassing for him to not to be able to perform well in the subject as his father was an accountant.
"It was embarrassing. I was worst in mathematics. And it was more embarrassing as my father was an accountant. But hey I am still playing the great mathematician in the film. So yes let's just say that there was lot of acting involved," the 25-year-old "Slumdog Millionaire" actor said on the sidelines of IFFI here.
The film's director Brown said while making the film, he has not shied away from dealing with mathematics and presented the subject in details in the movie.
"We didn't want to shy away from mathematics. I had wonderful teachers. I wanted this film to take on the mathematics. It's present within the story. The audience will respond to the passion.
"While I also think as a writer by taking into the aspect of the mathematics, it actually opened up doors and themes reflective of what the characters were going through. It is easier for the layman to understand," Brown said.
