The ruling AIADMK in Tamil Nadu Friday approached Assembly Speaker P Dhanapal for "due legal action" against three of its MLAs for alleged anti-party activities in the backdrop of them siding with rival leader and AMMK chief T T V Dhinakaran.

DMK quickly condemned the move, terming it as an action taken by the AIADMK as it feared the government would lose its majority as it was 'facing a drubbing' in the bypolls to the 18 assembly seats
"The Speaker (post) is apolitical.... various Supreme Court court verdicts have said that the Speaker's actions should be dispassionate. The Speaker should not take any action in this matter under the anti-defection law."
