The Indian Air Force is capable of facing every challenge including national and international threats, said IAF Eastern Command Air officer Commanding in Chief R K Jolly here today.
"Along with combating national and international threats, the Indian Air force has done a lot in fighting against various insurgencies across the country during past many decades," the AOC-in-C told reporters at the Tezpur Air Force station in Salonibari area.
Replying to queries regarding fundamentalist forces' threat in the North East region, the AOC-in-C said the IAF has done many successful jobs in tackling insurgency activities of Naxalites and Maoists and even during Operation Rhino against ULFA in Assam.
"If agencies concerned like Assam Police seek any help to root out jihadi elements from the soil of Assam then the IAF is ready to extend their helping hand," he said.
Other major operations undertaken by the IAF include Operation Vijay - the annexation of Goa, Operation Meghdoot, Operation Cactus and Operation Poomalai.
Apart from conflicts, the IAF has been an active participant in United Nations peacekeeping missions, Jolly said.
IAF Eastern Command has seven Advanced Landing Grounds (ALG) in Arunachal Pradesh for its AN-32 transport aircrafts to land and take off, he further said.
