Country's leading railway coach manufacturers Integral Coach Factory (ICF) today flagged off its new train set for Kolkata Metro, with the product boasting of state-of-the-art technology and claimed to be costing half of imported rakes.
Built on stainless steel, the cost of one Metro train set is about Rs 40 crore,"which is half the cost of any other imported Metro Train," a release from ICF said.
The train was propelled by 3-phase insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) based electric propulsion system, which was "indigenously manufactured," it said.
"The coaches are built on stainless steel body. The gangways are much wider and almost look as continuous passage between coaches without any restriction," it said.
Further, regenerative braking saves energy requirement to the extent of 30 percent of total consumption, ICF said, adding, it will manufacture 26 train sets for Kolkata Metro.
Other features include full air conditioning, electrically operated automatic sliding doors with manual override for emergency, passenger talk-back facility, LCD display for Passenger Information system and LED Destination board.
"Emergency egress system, (evacuation of passengers in case of non-function of automatic doors) from outside the coach is an addition in this new train," ICF said.
AK Mital, Chairman, Railway Board, flagged off the New Train in the presence of ICF General Manager, S Mani.
