ICHR has 6 special research projects in hand: Govt

The Indian Council for Historical Research (ICHR) is carrying out six special research projects including compilation of a 'Dictionary of Martyrs: India's Freedom Struggle', which began in 2009 and is expected to be completed by this December end.
In a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani said ICHR has indicated that there are at present six special research projects in hand.
As per the details provided by the minister in her reply, an expenditure of over Rs 1.5 crore had already been made on the project 'Dictionary of Martyrs: India's Freedom Struggle (1857-1947)'.
Another project 'Towards Freedom: Documents on the Movement for Independence in India' was sanctioned in 1973 and expenditure made so far is around Rs 2.45 crore. The project has been declared completed, however the printing is under progress.
Other projects which are underway include 'Documents on Economic History During the British Rule in Northern and Western India in the late Nineteenth Century: Quality of Life', 'Translation of Dutch Sources (1617-30)' and 'Survey, Collection and Documentation of Archival Sources of North East India', all of which started in 2012.
Another ongoing project at ICHR is 'Dictionary of Socio Economic and Administrative Terms in Indian/South Asian Inscriptions', which was sanctioned in 1990.
