ICICI donates SGD 1 lakh to Singapore self-help group

India's ICICI Bank has donated SGD 1,00,000 to the Singapore Indian Development Association (Sinda), a self-help group undertaking wide ranging programmes including education for the needy families.
Chief executive and managing director Chanda Kochhar presented the cheque yesterday to Deputy Prime Minister and Sinda chairman Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
Celebrating 10 years of its operations in Singapore, ICICI group wanted to contribute positively to society through both business activities and social initiatives in areas such as education and health care, she said.
"We see ourselves as an integral part of the Singapore community, having operated here for 10 years," said Kochhar.
Welcoming the donation, Sinda chief executive Raja Segar said ICICI had extended a helping hand to families in need.

"A financial contribution will help defray education costs and other financial hardships faced by such families in their quest for better future for themselves and specially, their children," he said.
This was ICICI's second donation to Sinda. It donated SGD 1,00,000 in 2010.
Sinda was set up in 1991 to address educational and socio-economic issues face by the Singapore Indian community.
