ICRISAT director William D Dar receives Swaminathan award

Dr William D Dar, Director General of International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), today received the M S Swaminathan Award for Leadership in Agriculture for the year 2013.
K Kasturirangan, Member (Science) Planning Commission, conferred the award on Dar in New Delhi, a release from ICRISAT, which is headquartered near here, said.
Dar is one of the extraordinary minds who have influenced, in a major way, the developments in agricultural science and through the same the global food security, Kasturirangan was quoted as saying in the release.
Named for Dr Swaminathan, who played a crucial role in the Green Revolution, the award is Indian version of the World Food Prize.
Dar said in reaction that he was deeply honoured to have received the award and considered it to be a major milestone in his professional life.
