ICRISAT to set up soil fertility development centre in
Press Trust of India Karaikal Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy today said that the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) will soon be setting up a soil fertility development centre here. at Karaikal.
Speaking at the three-day annual flower show here he said that the Puducherry Government would be entering into a MoU with ICRISAT, an international organisation engaged in agricultural research for rural development with headquarters at Hyderabad, next month.
The centre will carry out detailed study of the soil condition in Karaikal region and offer suggestions to farmers to improve fertility.
They will also suggest crops that are suitable for Karaikal region, he said.
The Chief Minister added that the ICRISAT centre will impart training on organic farming techniques to the farmers, besides creating awareness about the advanced farming and water conservation techniques followed by countries such as Philippines, Israel and China.
