Volumes as well as price of electricity traded on the Indian Energy Exchange fell sharply in November amid lower demand.
About 2.1 billion units of electricity were traded last month, which is over 30 per cent lower than 2.8 billion units recorded in October.
In November, the sell bids were way higher at 3.6 BUs.
"An average of about 71 million units of power were cleared on a daily average basis which is almost 27 per cent lower than average daily volume in the month of October.
"Perhaps onset of the winter season along with the open access related restrictions in a few states contributed to lower quantum," IEX said in a statement today.
On a daily basis, market clearing price of electricity in November varied from Rs 1.60 to Rs 5.50 per unit.

However, the average market clearing price was "just Rs 3 per unit, almost 28 per cent lower than average MCP of Rs 4.2 per unit" seen in October.
Further, the inter-regional power transmission network witnessed congestion last month, and almost 667 MUs were curtailed in November.
"The southern states, particularly Tamil Nadu and Kerala, were the worst affected as power could not flow into both these states on several days," the statement said.
