Asked if Ganguly is the right candidate to replace Ravi Shastri as the overall head of support staff (Team Director/High Performance Manager), Gavaskar told NDTV, "Depends on the time he (Ganguly) has. He has a lot of commitments. Don't forget that he is also the joint secretary of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) which is a very time consuming job. But a man of his capability, provided he has time, can bring a lot of positivity."
"It all depends on how the BCCI is looking at it. If Sourav becomes High Performance Manager, then he might just want a batting coach, bowling coach and fielding coach of his choice," said Gavaskar.
On a lighter note Gavaskar did not forget to mention that whoever is the coach or High Performance Manager won't actually be put to test as India will not be touring outside the sub-continent in the next two years for a full series.
