The inaugural function ofthe regional edition of the International Film Festival of Kerala, slated to be held in Nilambur in the district tomorrow, has been postponed following instructions from the District Collector.
According to sources at the election cell of the Malappuram District Collectorate, the organisers can go ahead with the other events like screening of films. Collector Amit Kumar Meena had sent a notice asking the organisers not to include the Chalachitra Academy Chairman, Kamal, a film director, in the event following a letter from the Indian Union Muslim League, they said.
In the letter, IUML had sought postponement of the festival's inauguration by Kamal, which, they said, would be a violation of the model code of conduct as the Academy is a state-government entity.
The letter was sent by IUML's Malappuram District Secretary K N A Khader.
Kamal is reportedly being considered as a candidate by the CPI-M-led LDF for the bypoll to the Malappuram Lok Sabha seat which fell vacant following the death of E Ahmed.
IUML had named National General Secretary P K Kunhalikutty as its candidate yesterday.
The bypoll is scheduled to be held on April 12.
