The Minister, in reply to a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, accepted that International Air Transport Association (IATA) has said the tariff hike sought by airport operator, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), will make Delhi airport one of the most expensive airports in the world.
Singh said the AERA's revised tariff was arrived at after a series of discussions, meetings, presentations and consultation process with various stakeholders like airline operators, Federation of India Airlines, IATA, passengers associations, CII and FICCI.
"In accordance with the provisions of State Support Agreement (SSA) and Operation, Management and Development Agreement (OMDA) signed by the Government of India and Airports Authority of India respectively with DIAL, the DIAL submitted a proposal for tariff revision to AERA," he said.
"Pursuant to their submission of the proposal, AERA has determined revision in aeronautical charges for Indira Gandhi International Airport and arrived at revised tariff to cover the cost of investment made by the DIAL and ensure fair rate of return for the airport," the minister said.
