The Jaipur-headquartered Indian Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR) hopes to commence the first batch at its upcoming fourth campus at Kolkata in 2017-18 after getting the required clearances from the state government.
IIHMR is solely focused on management education, training, research and consultancy in hospital management, public health management, pharmaceutical management and rural management.
At present, the non-profit, self-financed institute has campuses at Jaipur, Bangalore and New Delhi where it enrols about 300 students annually.
"We are awaiting clearances from the West Bengal Government to start work on the land we have acquired along Eastern Bypass near Kolkata. We are hopeful to commence our first batch of 120 students in 2017-18," IIHMR University Director S D Gupta told PTI.
Initially, IIHMR would invest Rs 5 to 6 crore on building infrastructure, Gupta said.
IIHMR is also looking at launching a new programme in Health IT, utilising IT technology in health sector, IIHMR Dean Training P R Sodani said.

The 30-year-old institute has created a global footprint and even worked in war-torn Afghanistan for 10 years, said Sodani.
He said the institute was recently conferred the status of a specialised research university by the Rajasthan Government. "Our 1,600 alumni now run prominent hospitals and healthcare centres across India," he said.
IIHMR is in dialogue with the government of Afghanistan to bid for another round of the project after the success of the Afghanistan Mortality Survey.
"The institute is keen to monitor and evaluate the health system and chip in its expertise to rebuild the health services and improving health status of the people in the country," IIHMR Director Lakhwinder Singh said.
