Indian Immunologicals Ltd (IIL) has the capacity to deliver 360 million doses per annum of vaccines for Foot and Mouth disease (FMD), a top official of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), which is the parent body of the vaccine maker announced here today.
NDDB chairman T Nanda also inaugurated IIL's new FMD vaccine manufacturing block at its Gachibowli vaccine complex here, according to a press release issued by IIL here today.
"This facility is the most advanced vaccine facility in India and incorporates state-of-the-art features such as full automation with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and advanced 'Bio-Safety Level 3 Plus' (BSL 3 Plus) environment.
"This facility also confirms to stringent regulatory norms in developed countries," the release quoted him as saying.
At present, IIL meets bulk of FMD vaccine requirements for the country's FMD Control Programme. IIL has already supplied more than a billion doses of this vaccine for this programme, the release said.
With the expansion of FMD Control Programme, the vaccine requirement is expected to increase significantly in the coming years and IIL has positioned itself to meet these requirements, the release said.
IIL's manufacturing strengths and scale of operations would enable supply of vaccine at a competitive price, it added.
