Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, here has emerged as the Top-Ranked Engineering Institute in the country for the third consecutive year.
The premier educational institute was declared as the number one among the Engineering institutes in the India Rankings, 2018, by National Institutional Rankings Framework (NIRF) of the Ministry of HRD, a press release said.
"The ranking is an affirmation of the consistent hard work of our faculty, staff and students and the zeal with which we are implementing and exceeding the targets of our Strategic Plan 2020", IIT Madras Director professor Bhaskar Ramamurthi said in the release.
IIT Madras also retained its position in the overall category where it was adjudged as the Second Best Institution in the country after Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, under the overall ranking of institutions.
"IIT Madras leads in research as well as industry collaboration anchored by its hugely successful Research Park. We will continue to forge ahead with the same energy to achieve greater heights", Ramamurthi said.
The results for NIRF 2018 were announced at a function held in New Delhi earlier in the day, in which Indian Institute of Science (IISC) Bengaluru was adjudged the overall best institution in the country by the HRD Ministry's national ranking framework.
Announcing the rankings at an event, HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar said the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M) has been adjudged the best engineering college and the Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A) the best management institution.
