"Amidst a fierce competition amongst 12 companies, IL&FS Technologies Limited (ITL) won the tender (floated by MHRD for providing wifi in central universities) after being evaluated on various parameters set by the ministry," IL&FS Technologies( ITL) said in a statement.
The purpose of this project is to provide all the 38 Central Universities a Wi-Fi enabled Campus network which would be connected to the National Knowledge Network (NKN) -- that interconnects universities with high speed broadband.
Banaras Hindu University (BHU) was the first University to accept the project in its campus. The ITL project is expected to get completed within a few months in the campus.
"In our endeavor to bring global technologies to India, we are delighted to get this project and will extend the services to more Universities," ITL CEO Durga Prasad said.
The implementation of the project will be extended to three more Universities namely - Nagaland University, H N B Garhwal University and Visva Bharati University in Shantiniketan in October, the statement said.
