Based on a petition filed by a lawyer, the Madras High Court a couple of months ago has directed the municipality to verify the illegal construction in this area, following which some buildings were identified as illegal, police said.
The authorities issued notice to the councillor Vinodha to explain why the building cannot be demolished, as she had constructed it after demolishing a public toilet and also transferring the land deed in her daughter's name they said.
Meanwhile, a group, which included the leaders of majority of the political parties, staged a demonstration against such demolitions and demanded that the authorities give one-time regularisation of such buildings, constructed some years ago, police said.
