Goa Chief Minister Laxmikan Parsekar today told the State Legislative Assembly that number of illegal constructions in the state are mushrooming on account of cumbersome procedures existing in the system.
"The procedures to get permission to construct houses are cumbersome. That is why people are forced to go for illegal constructions," Parsekar said on the floor of the House today.
He assured the legislators that the state government will be simplifying the procedures for construction.
He also said the state government has been moving towards regularising the houses in the state.
"The issue of illegal houses is not new and it existed right from the time of liberation," the chief minister added.
Responding to a question, he said the houses will not be regularised en mass but would be classified.
"For example, if I have constructed house in my own land it would be immediately regularised. Those which are on tenanted land would be treated differently," he said.
Leader of Opposition Pratapsingh Rane demanded that the houses should not be regularised as it would give benefit to the non-Goans who have been illegally occupying spaces.
