Illegal timber seized along with machinery in Jorhat

Over 200 logs along with sawing machinery and other equipment were seized by Forest department personnel from an illegal saw mill in the outskirts of Jorhat last night, officials here today said.
A team of Forest personnel led by Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Sapan Saikia seized the logs worth over several lakh of rupees from Kachogoral area, the sources said.
The owner of the illegal saw mill was identified to be one Paresh Koch, who was picked up for interrogation, officials said.
The seized logs were illegally felled from areas in and around the district of Jorhat, the DFO added.
