As many as 1,443 quarters of illicit liquor, being smuggled here from Haryana for suspected use during the municipal corporation polls, have been seized and one person arrested, police said today.
The liquor was seized from a car which was intercepted by the police in trans-Yamuna area of Shahdara.
"A Honda City car was stopped by policemen on picket duty near Nisaria Masjid at Seemapuri yesterday around 2.25 PM. During search of the vehicle, 1,443 quarters of illicit liquor being smuggled from Haryana was recovered," said Nupur Prasad, DCP (Shahdara).
During interrogation the car driver, Tarun Singh, disclosed that the liquor was purchased in Haryana and it was to be supplied in various parts of the city, she said.
Further investigation is on, the DCP said, adding a case under Excise Act has been registered at Seemapuri police station.
