The Indian Language Newspapers Association (ILNA) which conducted its 73rd Annual General Meeting here on September 16, has demanded transparency in the process of issuing government advertisements.
"ILNA president Paresh Nath stressed that there is a need for transparency in the process of issuing government advertisements and it should be distributed equally. If advertisements are not related to monetary grounds, they must be issued on the basis of space," according to an ILNA press statement issued here today.
Nath stressed the need to simplify and improvise the functioning of the Directorate of Audio Visual Publicity (DAVP) and Registrar of Newspapers for India (RNI), the statement said.
Nath expressed concern that decision makers encourage English language newspapers at the cost of Indian language newspapers, the statement said.
He claimed that the country's development depends on the development of Indian languages, since many people express their thoughts in their native regional languages, the statement said.
Vijay Bondriya of 'Krishak Jagat' published from Bhopal was given the 'Chandrakant Bhave Senior Publisher Award', instituted in the memory of its long-serving volunteer treasurer Chandrakant Bhave, the statement said.
ILNA also held elections to 12 posts, vacated after retirements of few of its members, during its Annual General Meeting. After electing new members, ILNA's strength has reached 36 members, the statement said.
