IMC chief shuns official car to pedal his way to office daily
Press Trust of India Indore Close on the heels of Prime Minister Narendra's Modi's appeal to people to use bicycles at least once a week to save energy, Chairman of Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) Ajay Singh Naruka said he has decided to cycle to work daily.
Naruka today returned the keys of his official SUV to the administration.
"Taking a cue from the recent appeal of Prime Minister, I have decided to ride a bicycle daily to IMC office. Now I don't need the SUV (sports utility vehicle), so I have returned its keys," Naruka later told reporters.
Naruka said he would request other public representatives of the municipal body to use bicycle to reach the civic headquarters at least one day in a week and set an example for others for the protection of the environment.
While addressing a conference of state environment ministers and officials in New Delhi recently, Modi had suggested switching of street-lights on a full moon night and use of bicycles at least once a week to conserve energy.
