Impersonator cop, accomplice arrested

A man, impersonating as a Delhi police officer by donning a fake police uniform to dupe innocent people, has been arrested along with his accomplice, police said today.
Acting on a tip-off, Mangal Singh (26) and his associate Manish (25) were arrested from Anand Vihar railway station by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police, police said.
Singh not only used to wear a fake Delhi police uniform bearing name plate of 'Abhishek Sharma SI' but also carried a wireless set while Manish used to carry files bearing Delhi Police Logo, they said.
"We laid a trap at opposite Anand Vihar Railway Station on the instance of an informer. A white car arrived on the spot in which Mangal, who was in the driver's seat in Sub Inspector's uniform.
"He was also having one wireless set in his hand whereas his associate was having files bearing Delhi Police logo. When they were asked to show their identity, they tried to flee but were overpowered by the cops," Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav said.
During interrogation, Mangal disclosed to police that he had joined Delhi Home Guards in the year 2008. But after a few months, he was terminated from service because of his misconduct. During this period he learnt about intricacies of police working, police said.
The duo used to cheat people by impersonating as a police officer. His associate Manish has also corroborated about his involvement in this incident during interrogation, police said.
