Implement 85th Constitutional Amendment in Himachal: Gachli

Former MLA and National Secretary of Bharatiya Dalit Sahitya Akademi Chaman Lall Gachli today appealed to the Himachal Pradesh government to implement 85th Amendment to the Constitution in the state to protect seniority in case of promotions of SC/ST employees.
"It is very unfortunate that there has been a controversy in the state over reservation for SC/ST employees in promotions, which is duly provided in the Constitution of India," he said in a statement here.
He said it was uncalled for that the previous BJP government stayed away from implementing the amendment despite the fact that all agencies and organisations belonging to SC and ST categories vigorously pursued the matter with it.

"Therefore, it has become essential for the present Virbhadra Singh-led Congress government to do justice by implementing the 85th Amendment," Gachli said.
