: The Federation of Tamil Nadu Agricultural Association today demanded that the Centre implement in toto M S Swaminathan Commission recommendations on agriculture produce on the lines of Pay Commission for Government employees and also salary for legislators.
Federation secretary S Nallasami in a statement here sought to know what prevented government from accepting and implementing it or for that matter by the Committee meant to fix the prices for agricultural produce when it had through the years implemented recommendations of the pay commission and salary hikes for MPs and MLAs without any changes.
He alleged that the Centre had not fully accepted the suggestions of Commission for Agriculture Cost and Prices and implemented it with reduced prices, "which is an injustice to farmers."
This amounted to a biased approach towards farmers, the backbone of the nation, he said and alleged that both the Centre and State government are treating farmers as second grade citizens, reflecting their 'anti-farmer' stance.
He said once the recommendations were accepted, there was no no need for freebies, subsidies, concession, loan or loan waiver and any IT exemption to farmers, who can live with prestige, a sense of pride and without resorting to suicides.
Considering their welfare, government should come forward and accept and implement the recommendations, along with reports of pay commission and the panel for MPs and MLAs salary, Nallasami said.
