"Precarious economical condition of the state needs political will and political solution and imposition of more taxes is not the right choice at this juncture," said Manpreet, chief of People's Party of Punjab (PPP).
Manpreet criticised the recent imposition of new taxes and requested the chief minister of the state to withdraw them.
He also appealed the industries not to shift their bases to other states.
The Centre and the state government should find a political solution to the dwindling economy, he said.
Manpreet also batted in favour of the appointment of noted agricultural economist Sardara Singh Johl as Chancellor of Central University at Bathinda.
He said "Johl was selected on merit."
