Ramesh Kumar, who has 29 cases of cheating registered against him, was apprehended by police from Meena Bazar near Jama yesterday while trying to flee with his two associates after cheating Kashmiri businessman Manzoor Ahmad Dar.
Dar had come to Delhi for some business purpose and while he was near Chandni Chowk, one person stopped him and introduced himself as a CBI officer, Additional Commissioner of Police (Central) Devesh Srivastava said.
The man told Dar that he wanted to search him and two other persons joined him.
The trio took him to Meena Bazar in an auto and took out Rs 25,000 from his pocket and started checking the notes. After checking of notes, they handed over him a yellow envelope and told him that his currency notes are original.
"Dar checked the envelope and found a bunch of newspaper cutting in the size of currency notes in the envelope instead of currency notes. On this, he started shouting for help and the trio fled. Kumar, however, was arrested," Srivastava said.
Kumar was arrested in a cheating case in 1990 and so far was involved in 29 cases of cheating, he said.
