Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi today said improved law and order situation is the reason behind increase in number of domestic and foreign tourists in Bihar and that the state government was serious about promoting tourism sector to boost overall economic development.
"Tourism is a big sector and the state government is serious about its promotion to push economic development," he said at a function here.
Stating that the tourist flow in Bihar has increased considerably in the past one decade from mere thousands in 2005 to about two crore as per the latest figure, Manjhi attributed the improved law and order situation behind the increase in number of domestic and foreign tourists in the state.
"The state government will ensure a peaceful law and order situation so that the upward trend of tourists' footfall continues in future as well," Manjhi said.
Manjhi, who is on a two-day visit to Munger, also expressed concern over rapidly declining social values despite growth in literacy rate at about 60-70 per cent and noted that there was harmony in the society when the percentage of educated people used to be around ten per cent a few decades ago.
