Improving madrasa education: govt to set up consultative panel

The consultative committee will meet twice a year to discuss on streamlining various issues concerning providing quality education in madrasas scheme so that grievance redressal is prompt, implementation is faster and effective quality outcome for students is ensured, an HRD Ministry statement said.

The committee will have 21 members including representatives from teacher associations, Madrasa board chairmen, state government and HRD Ministry officials.

The decision was taken at a meeting HRD Minister Kapil Sibal had with madrasa teachers associations, representatives of state madrasa boards and state government officials.

The scheme which focuses on improving madrasa education with introduction of modern subjects such as mathematics, science, social studies, Hindi and English and providing financial assistance for teachers has benefited over 10,522 madrasas and 26,755 teachers so far.

It also provides assistance for teacher training, libraries, science and computer labs, science and maths kits to improve quality standards.

It also provides linkages with National Institute of Open Schooling for assessment and certification of regular curricula as well as vocational education.
