Amid censorship controversy surrounding "Udta Punjab" film, Punjabi movie actor Binny Dhillon today said in a democracy, there should be freedom to express one's views.
The makers of "Udta Punjab", which deals with the issue of substance abuse in the Northern state, are at loggerheads with the censor board after the latter allegedly demanded 89 cuts in the movie, including removal of the word "Punjab" from the film as well as its title.
"I have not seen the movie. So I will not specifically comment on it and nor on Censor Board's move about it. But I feel that in a democracy, there should be freedom to express one's views and to say one's things," the actor told reporters here when asked about "Udta Punjab" row.
"Any form of art that portrays social evils should be allowed to do so. Censor Board should look into the aspects that the portrayal by the concerned form of art does not mislead youths, nor does it contain vulgarity and it was fit to be viewed with family", Dhillon said.
The actor was here to promote his upcoming Punjabi film "Dulla Bhatti".
About his own movie, which is slated for release on June 10, Dhillon said that the sixteenth century, hero symbolised dignity and honour of Punjab.
"Such Punjabi folklore hero and icon like Dulla Bhatti should be in every village and city of Punjab", said Dhillon, who plays the lead role of the icon.
