In joint-op police, BSF seize 22.5 kg heroin worth Rs 110 cr

In a joint operation, police and Border Security Force today seized 22.5 kg heroin, pegged approximately worth Rs 110 crore in market, and arrested three persons.
Those arrested have been identified as Harbhajan Singh alias Rana, Rishi Bamber and Saurav, said Amar Singh Chahal, DIG, Ferozepur Range and R K Thapa, DIG, BSF, Ferozepur during a joint press conference.
DIG Chahal said police had received a tip off that Harbhajan Singh, who is a notorious smuggler and also has relations with Pakistani drug peddlers, is going to receive a huge consignment of drugs near the border area in Ferozepur.
Subsequently, a joint team of BSF and Police was constituted which arrested the accused at a naka laid near village Gatti Rajo Ke and 22 kg heroin was recovered from him, Chahal said.
Later the police arrested Rishi and Saurav from border road, who had come to receive this consignment for further delivery and also impounded the SUV they had come in, he added.
The police also recovered 530 gram heroin from the duo, said SSP Hardyal Singh Mann.
Chahal said that several cases under NDPS act had already been registered against Harbhajan Singh and "Last year also, he had received a huge consignment of heroin from Pakistan which was further sold to the international smugglers."
Further probe in the case is underway, the DIG said.
