Director of Meteorological department, Dilip Saha said the Regional Weather station here recorded 170.3 mm of rains till 12.00 pm today, which is highest this year.
Sub-divisional Magistrate Samit Roy Chowdhury said, the town and its low lying outskirts were submerged in rain water and a few families were rendered homeless.
Movement of people and vehicles came to a halt, many shops were closed and attendances in government offices, banks and schools and colleges were also thin due to incessant rains and waterlogging, sources said.
Waterlogging was reported from Srilanka Basti, Pratapgarh, Aralia, Jogendranagar, Katashewla, Chandrapur, Baldakhal area of the town due to the rain.
