Include Ho language in 8th Schedule: BJP MP

BJP Rajya Sabha MP Dharmendra Pradhan today led a delegation to Minister of State for Home R P N Singh to demand that Ho, a language spoken by Ho, Munda, Kol and Kolha tribals of Odisha, Jharkhand and West Bengal be included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
Pradhan submitted a memorandum demanding that the government of India include Ho in the Constitution to give it an official status as the language was spoken by 25 lakh people.
He said it has a script - Warang Chiti in which songs, myths and tales have been written.
The delegation comprising of members of the Ho Samaj Mahasabha maintained that the demand is a long standing one and the SC, ST Development, Government of Odisha had made this recommendation to the Centre earlier.
The same request has also been made by the Department of personnel, Jharkhand.
The language is spoken by 25 lakh tribals belonging to Ho, Munda, Kol, and Kolha tribes of Odisha, Jharkhand and West Bengal and hence deserves a place in the Eighth Schedule, Pradhan said.
