Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh signed off the first Military Literature Festival (MLF) here saying authors and veterans from other nations, including Pakistan, should be invited to participate in it.
Addressing a small gathering here last evening, the chief minister said it would be interesting, for instance, to have the 1965 war veterans from India and Pakistan come face-to- face and share their experiences.
Singh had invited the team behind the first-of-its-kind festival for dinner as a token of appreciation, an official release said today, adding that each member was presented with a memento.
Amarinder said the event proved to be an exciting platform to promote understanding and awareness, especially among the youth, about India's defence forces.
The chief minister hoped the festival would imbibe in the youth a spirit of nationalism, and encourage them to join the defence forces.
Thanking Amarinder for his support and participation in the event, Lt Gen. TS Shergill (retd), senior adviser to the CM, said the Military Literature Festival Society had been set up as a permanent body and would continue to initiate activities promoting the exchange of ideas and experiences in this field.
