Official sources said today Indian Ambassador in Kuwait Satish C Mehta has also briefed External Affairs Minister S M Krishna regarding the matter.
Sources in External Affairs Ministry said "sponsors were being contacted to come and get their detainees released, some have already come and had those under their sponsorship released. All efforts are underway to help the detained Indians."
They also said that Ministry of Overseas Affairs had been informed and asked to get in touch with the Indian agents who have sent them to Kuwait.
Involving cases of visa misuse, over 1,000 Indians have been detained by local authorities in Kuwait.
Officials from Kuwait's Ministry of Interior had in all apprehended 2,136 individuals for expired residency and involvement in drug, theft, liquor and such cases during impromptu security campaigns yesterday.
