A day after the blast in a firecracker unit here that killed 23 persons, an independent MLA berated Gurdaspur Deputy Commissioner Vipul Ujwal in full public view at the civil hospital here on the issue of identification of a victim's body, with the video of the incident having gone viral.

"Eh tere baap da office nahi hai. Eh public da office hai. Te tu public nu hi keh rehan ki bahar jao. (It's not your father's office, it's a public office and you are asking the public to get out)," Lok Insaaf Party chief Simranjit Singh Bains is heard yelling at the deputy commissioner, even as the officer is seen trying to calm the infuriated MLA.

"Mera naal gal kar la pehla" (Talk to me first)," Bains is seen telling the officer earlier in the 45-second video in presence of Senior Superintendent of Police Opinderjit Singh, Civil Surgeon Kishan Chand and DySP Balkrishna Singla.

In the video, the legislator is seen shouting at the officer even as tries to clear some confusion over the identity of a blast victim's body.

With the furious MLA refusing to see reasons, a humiliated deputy commissioner is heard merely quipping "I'm not going to talk to you" and seen leaving the place.

Meanwhile, Lok Insaaf Party's Batala unit president Vijay Trehan said Bains had visited the injured in hospital along with supporters.

At the hospital, one Manjit Singh had sought the MLA's help in finding out the body of his brother Satnam singh, a blast victim.

Batala MLA Lakhbir Singh Lodinangal flayed Bains' conduct, saying his behaviour even in the assembly is "no better".

Both the MLA and DC should give respect to each other under legislative protocol. It is not new for Bains to misbehave with anyone. In assembly too, his behaviour is no better," said Lodinangal.

Victim's brother Manjit Singh who was not able to identify his brother' body earlier, identified it on Friday from among the three unidentified bodies, said SMO Sanjiv Bhalla.
