India and Afghanistan today held foreign office consultations during which they discussed key bilateral issues pertaining to security in the wake of proposed withdrawal of NATO troops from the war-torn country.
Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh and Afghan Deputy Foreign Minister Ershad Ahmadi met here and also discussed the events related to Afghanistan that will take place on the margins of the UN General Assembly in New York next week, official sources said.
Apart from deliberating on the security of Indians and Indian interests in Afghanistan in the backdrop of recent attacks on the Indian consulate in Jalalabad, the two officials also discussed the security situation in the region with the focus on the impact of US-led forces' draw-down.
Earlier, Ahmadi called on External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid.
