According to a United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) report titled 'Recycling - From E-waste to Resources', India with generation of less than 0.15 kg/capita/year of e-waste is amongst the countries with lowest quantity of per capita e-waste from personal computers, Environment Minister Jayanthi Natarajan said in a written reply to a query.
The minister also said the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) had already notified E-Waste Rules in May 2011, which came into force with effect from May 1, 2012.
Wastes generated are required to be sold to a registered or authorised recycler or re-processor having environmentally sound facilities, the minister said.
