Home Secretary R K Singh and his Bangladesh counterpart Manjur Hussain will visit Akhaura LCS and review the progress of the construction of the new LCS for which India sanctioned Rs.73.5 crore.

Singh will visit Dhaka today and hold a meeting there before both flying to Akhaura by a chopper.

The then Home Minister P Chidambaram had laid the foundation of the Land Custom Station here in May 17 last and its construction is in progress.

Both the home secretaries would return to Dhaka after lunch by the chopper, the sources said.

The Integrated Land Custom Stations are envisaged to overcome the infrastructure bottlenecks at various entry and exit points on the land borders of the country.

The stations are expected to provide facilities for efficient functioning of security, immigration, customs and quarantine. They will also provide support facilities for smooth cross-border movement of people, goods and transport.
