The first meeting of the India-Bangladesh joint committee on audio-visual co-production was held here today with both sides agreeing to expedite the work on a proposed film on the life of "Bangabandhu" Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and a documentary on the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.
Issues such as selecting a director, screenplay and timelines for the projects were discussed at the meeting, an official said on the condition of anonymity.
It was decided last year that the two countries would jointly produce a documentary on the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.
It was also decided that India would also facilitate the production of a "mega movie" by Bangladesh to mark the 100th birth anniversary of its Father of the Nation, "Bangabandhu" Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, in 2020.
The film will have English subtitles for the international audience, sources said, adding that the screenplay will be approved by a committee of experts.
Additional Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Jayashree Mukherjee, and Additional Secretary, Ministry of Information, Bangladesh, Md Abual Hossain, attended the meeting today, along with other senior officials.
