"The matter came up for discussion in the last Foreign Ministers' joint consultative committee meeting held in New Delhi on May 8 and Bangladesh asserted that they are keen to continue dialogue and send a delegation to India and vice-versa to study the situation," Saran said.

"If India signs an extradition agreement with Bangladesh, it would have a good impact on our security concerns. We would like to sign the treaty at the earliest and it is our view that it would be good for both the countries," he said.

If the treaty is signed, it would help India to get back the insurgents of the north eastern region using the soil of Bangladesh, the High Commissioner said.

"India wants to develop a political consensus among all stake-holders on the issue of water sharing of Teesta river in West Bengal as it is an important issue," Saran said adding the relation between India and Bangladesh is "improving satisfactorily."

Saran earlier in the day visited the site of the bridge on river Feni in South Tripura district which would connect the north eastern region with Chittagong port in Bangladesh.

Saran, along with IG BSF, Tripura Frontier, P C Meena, visited Anandapara in Border town Sabroom where a joint survey for construction of the bridge is on. He also visited the site of Sabroom Land Custom Station (LCS).
