India defeated UAE by nine wickets in their Pool-B match of the cricket World Cup here today. Opting to bat, UAE were bundled out for 102 in 31.3 overs and then India chased down the 103-run target, scoring 104 for one in 18.5 overs.

Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who spun a  web against the UAE batsmen said focussing on his basics brought such results for him.

Ashwin picked up his career best One-day International (ODI) figures of four for 25 from his 10 overs, getting rid of the UAE middle order in quick time. This also got him the Man of the Match award.

"I've never got a four-for before. It was running on my mind a bit, but I was focussing on my basics and it was coming out well," Ashwin said at the mid-innings break.

Pacer Umesh Yadav and left arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja chipped in with two scalps each to skittle out the UAE for 102 in 32.2 overs.

It was the easiest of chases and India achieved the target in 18.5 overs with only the loss of Shikhar Dhawan's wicket. Rohit Sharma stroked a fluent 57 off 55 balls and stayed unbeaten.

Brief scores:

UAE: 102 all out in 31.3 overs (Shaiman Anwar 35; Ravichandran Ashwin 4/25)

India: 104 for one in 18.5 overs (Rohit Sharma 57, Virat Kohli 33; Mohammad Naveed 1/35).
