"India has a chance of winning medals in badminton, tennis and shooting. It would be good even if we get ranked among the first six. Speedy gameplan on the ground and cent percent effort could pay," he said.

Pillay said that intrusion of politicians in sports fedrations ensured that deserving sportsmen are not given a chance to play. He also said that experienced coaches could change the situation.

Citing the example of hockey in India, Dhanraj said, "There are two organisations for hockey in the nation called Indian Hockey Federation and Hockey India. Similarly, there are five others in the state. The sports department also tried to unite all these organisations but politics is stronger than such efforts and so hockey continues to suffer."
