India denies Nepali man killed in Indian firing

India today "categorically denied" that its border-guarding force has killed a Nepali man at the Nepal-India border and said there is a need to maintain calm.
Reacting to some media reports regarding disturbances near the border at Aananda Bazaar in Kanchanpur district in which a Nepali citizen was killed, the Indian Embassy said there was no incident of firing by Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
"In response to queries by local media regarding disturbances near the border at Aananda Bazaar, Kanchanpur, it is categorically denied that there was any incident of firing by Sashastra Seema Bal.
"There is a need to maintain calm and let the survey officials of both sides discuss the location of border pillars before any construction work is undertaken. District Officials have been directed to cooperate to defuse the situation," the embassy said in a statement.

Govinda Gautam, of Kanchanpur district, was killed in alleged firing from the Indian side at Nepal-India border following a dispute over building a culvert over the Sano Khola river in Kanchanpur district, said Kantipur Television in its news report.
Tension erupted in the area after the firing, the report added.
